The Theatre Department was founded Klaipėda Faculty of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in 1975 and ran a study programme to train stage directors with a focus on creative work with theatre lovers in cultural institutions. From 1977, the Department is running a study programme under which actors are trained for drama theatres in Klaipėda and neighbouring regions. The graduates of the Department work in drama and puppet theatres, run amateur theatres in cultural centres, organize and direct public events, set up event organization companies, and are engaged in other types of cultural and project activities. Currently, the Department offers study programmes in theatre directing, directing of puppet and object theatres, BA in acting and MA in theatre directing.
