PUPPET MUSEUM of KAUNAS STATE PUPPET THEATRE

The puppet museum was opened in 1994 on the inititative of Valerija and Stasys Ratkevičiai, the founders of the theatre. The museum’s collection is based on puppets, masks, props and scenographic elements used in performances of staged at the theatre. It exhibits stick puppets, used in the first performances of the theatre, a reminder of aesthetics of pure realism; and also puppets from later priods, including stilised characters created by contemporary artists. At present, the museumʼs collection includes more than 900 exhibits. The museum hosts theatralised programmes, organizes puppet exhibition tours. Using EU funds, the museum was renovated in 2019 – 2020.
