The Puppet Theatre „Zuikis Puikis“ Celebrates Its 45th Anniversary

Adventures of Kitten Motik” by J. Poprovskiy. The theatre performs in Lithuania and abroad. Some of the performances were even filmed and broadcasted on Lithuanian National Television.

Since the foundation „Zuikis Puikis“ has been creating its own history full of performances, educational programs, national puppet theatre festivals (since 1986) which later (in 2004) turned into an international puppet and drama theatre workshop-festival „Performing at Zuikis Puikis Theatre“. In 2016 Janina Baldauskienė, director of the theatre, was awarded the statue of „Tegyvuoja teatras” (“Long Live the Theatre”) for the organization of the latter long-standing workshop-festival.

In 1999 „Zuikis Puikis“ was announced as the best amateur puppet theatre and awarded the statue of „Aukso Paukštė“ (“The Golden Bird”). Since 2006 the theatre is a member of UNIMA.

So far, the theatre has created 37 performances for the audience. An exceptional attention is paid to the literary works of Lithuanian authors, to Lithuanian folk tales, to the richness and promotion of the mother tongue. The performances are based on the literary works of these Lithuanian authors: J. Degutytė, E. Liegutė, J. Radzevičius, A. Gudelis, M. Martinaitis, K. Donelaitis, V. Šoblinskaitė Aleksa, J. Januškevičiūtė. Regina Katinaitė-Lumpickienė has written many stagings according to Lithuanian folk tales and the tales by Brothers Grimm, H. Christian Andersen.

Puppets, masks and scenography are created by the number of artists: Vida Navikienė and Rimantas Jacunskas (artists-puppeteers), Lina Praudzinskaitė and Aurelijus Baldauskas (artists-scenographers), Arūnas Paškevičius and Edmundas Gutauskas (music authors). All theatre performances are directed by Janina Baldauskienė.
